Colonial Meadows Neighborhood Water Issue
This page is maintained as a source of information for residents of Colonial Meadows by Corey Beirne, representative of this area on the McLean County Board. All information presented is from him only and does not represent County policy or direction. Several other governmental agencies are working on this issue as well, including the State of Illinois, Bloomington Normal Water Reclamation District, and many others. As more information is received it will be shared here. We are grateful to those partners for their awareness and work on this issue.
Background
The water well and individual septic systems in the Colonial Meadows neighborhood are in extremely poor condition and require significant upgrades. Because the entity running the CM water system is essentially insolvent the funding to upgrade the existing system is not present, so solutions are being discussed between The State of Illinois, McLean County, City of Bloomington, Bloomington Township, and the Bloomington Normal Water Reclamation District (BNWRD).

BNWRD commissioned a study this past fall and recently completed it. It examined the neighborhood and identified solutions for a sanitary disposal system to connect to the City of Bloomington’s water system. These solutions will replace all resident’s existing septic tanks. A grant has been identified and confirmed by State Rep. Deering’s office that will be available in the Fall of 2025. Information from this survey will be used to apply for that grant.
