Education and Career

Corey has lived in Bloomington-Normal for 27 years and in District 10 since 2014. He currently teaches Music at Prairieland and Parkside Elementary schools in Normal. Corey and his family are very active in the community and take pride in all that all it has to offer.

Corey has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from Illinois State University and is a certified Master Teacher, a designation shared by only 5% of Illinois teachers. He spent 10 years as a High School and Junior High band director before a career change took him to State Farm for five years. Corey has since returned to teaching and has been part of the wonderful community of educators in Unit 5 since 2017.

In the Community

Outside of the classroom, community involvement has been a priority of Corey's. He has been a Cub Scout leader at Northpoint Elementary, a board member of local arts organizations, and a longtime member and practicing musician in local music groups.

Corey and his family have fostered children, which has given them experience and insight with families in need, the court system, the health department, and the county jail. As a result, Corey understands the important services provided by county government and its hardworking employees. He is eager to hear the voices of underrepresented groups in McLean County and partner with county services in improving the lives of our most vulnerable populations.

At Home

Corey is married to Abby Scott, a data scientist at State Farm and a fixture in the local theater scene. He is the proud dad of two children who attend High School in Unit 5. Maddie is graduating this year and led the Normal Marching Band as one of its Drum Majors this past fall, and Sam plays for the NWCHS Baseball team.

When not teaching, attending youth or community events, Corey enjoys playing with several local jazz and classical musical organizations, woodworking, and watching Cubs baseball.
